Kamadgiri Chitrakoot: History & Parikrama Guide

Kamadgiri is considered the spiritual centre of Chitrakoot and, for many pilgrims, the holiest hill in the region. It's believed to be the actual hill where Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman lived during part of their fourteen years of exile, and devotees walk its 5-kilometre parikrama (circumambulation path) as an act of devotion rather than simply visiting it as a sightseeing stop.

The hill itself is considered so sacred that pilgrims don't climb it; instead they walk around its base, stopping at small temples and shrines along the way. Many complete the parikrama barefoot. Evening is a popular time to walk it, when the path is lit with diyas and the crowd thins out from the daytime heat.

Kamadgiri sits close to Ramghat and Hanuman Dhara, so most visitors cover all three sites in a single day trip from Chitrakoot town.
