Anathapindika's Stupa
This stupa marks the site linked to Anathapindika, a wealthy merchant and one of the Buddha's most generous patrons, who is said to have purchased the land at Jetavana and gifted it to the Buddhist community. His devotion is considered one of the great examples of lay support for the Buddha's teaching.
The stupa itself is a modest brick structure, but its significance lies in the story behind it rather than its scale, marking one of Buddhism's earliest and most important acts of patronage. It sits within the wider Jetavana Monastery grounds, so it's typically visited as part of the same walk rather than as a separate stop.
Pilgrims following the Buddhist circuit through Shrawasti often pause here to reflect on the story before continuing on to the Anandabodhi Tree and the main monastery ruins.
