Angulimala Stupa
The Angulimala Stupa marks the story of Angulimala, a feared bandit who, according to Buddhist tradition, was transformed by a single encounter with the Buddha and went on to become one of his devoted followers. The story is one of the most well-known examples in Buddhist teaching of redemption and the possibility of change.
The stupa stands in a quiet, less-visited part of Shrawasti compared to Jetavana Monastery, giving it a calmer, more contemplative atmosphere. Local guides often recount the full story of Angulimala's transformation at the site, which adds meaning to what is otherwise a simple brick structure.
It pairs well with a visit to Jetavana Monastery and Buddha Park, both a short drive away, as part of a half-day tour of Shrawasti's Buddhist sites.
