Day 2 - Thimphu Sightseeing, Dochula Pass and Punakha Dzong
Day Overview
What to expect today
After breakfast, visit Buddha Dordenma for its Buddhist landmark and view over the Thimphu Valley. Allow time for the guide’s explanation before continuing towards Punakha. Stop at Dochula Pass to see the Druk Wangyal Chortens and enjoy the surrounding scenery. Distant mountain views depend on clear weather.
Continue down towards Punakha, planning a break for lunch at the travellers’ own expense. Visit Punakha Dzong during its permitted visitor hours. Its position at the meeting of the two rivers provides the setting for an introduction to the valley’s religious and architectural heritage. Follow the guide through accessible areas and respect any restricted spaces.
Check in to the Punakha hotel after sightseeing. This is a transfer and sightseeing day, so the morning departure should allow sufficient room for the road journey. If the dzong cannot be visited that afternoon, move it to the following morning and adjust the Paro visits rather than rush or promise entry after closing.
